‚I am not important. What’s important are the stories of others. – Elizabeth T. Spira
Café zur Gitti‘ is a contemporary circus play that combines circus, music and theater and focuses on the microcosm of a Viennese pub. With Viennese wit, subtle humor and a great deal of empathy, it tells of those ‚little people‘ whose life stories are often overlooked.
The piece takes up themes such as loss, belonging and humanity and is inspired by Elizabeth T. Spira’s ‚everyday stories‘. Interviews, specially composed live music and a contemporary form of gentlemen’s juggling with everyday pub objects merge into a poetic narrative style.
Musically, the Viennese song meets chanson, urban soundscapes and jazz. Incidental noises are looped live. The characters are based on real people, artistically condensed and lovingly drawn. Julia Reschenhofer and Stephanie Skrein embody characters who find a place of community and a sense of belonging in the Beisl.
