How a spiral works
Did you lose track of time? In this performance, the artists struggle for time—for themselves, for one another, and for mutual trust under extreme conditions. How do I care for my partner when everything is in flux: in the eye of a whirlwind, at extreme heights, in pain? British circus director Jason Dupree, choreographer Alise Bokaldere (LV), and aerialist Izabele Kuzelyte (LT) create a hypnotic, powerful performance that combines contemporary dance, hair-hanging, and vertical rope with a reinterpretation of Baltic folk music. A dancer, an aerialist, and a rope—connected in a relationship that is constantly evolving.
Art For Rainy Days is a performance collective made up of a circus artist, a dancer and a dramaturge. From their different perspectives, a common goal emerges: to inspire each other and create fresh artistic forms through the exchange of new ideas. Art For Rainy Days is like a leisurely breakfast, scribbles in a notebook, a daydream – works of art that emerge from those small tasks and projects that you start on quiet, seemingly unproductive days to relax, take a deep breath and find time for yourself again.

„One of the best new circus shows I’ve seen in a long time. It’s a wonderful reminder that there are still new things that can surprise us and take our breath away. Technically brilliant and with a strong emotional impact. Highly recommended.“ – Steve Cowton, The Lowry
„How a Spiral Works celebrated its UK premiere at Jacksons Lane in 2025 to an enthusiastic, sold-out house. The hypnotic, almost zen-like circus and choreography captivated the audience from start to finish. An absolute highlight of our first 50th anniversary season.“ – Adrian Berry, Jacksons Lane
„In today’s world where everything is fast paced, caffeinated and loud, this piece was a beautiful
contrast. A performance full of care that took its time and gave my brain space to think. If you want a fresh start, this performance is it.“ – Audience
